JennyBrown Revamps White Truffle Line with Formula and Packaging

Swiss luxury skincare brand JennyBrown has completed a full upgrade of its White Truffle Luxury Collection, launching a new generation of White Truffle Essence and White Truffle Luxury Cream. The update involves formula optimization and packaging redesign, with the company describing it as a systematic improvement in product purity and user experience, as well as another concrete step in JennyBrown’s ongoing commitment to natural skincare.

As JennyBrown’s most established and well-regarded collection, the White Truffle Luxury Collection centers on Italian white truffle as its core ingredient, focusing on repair, radiance, and gentle safety. The upgraded formula improves the delivery efficiency of active ingredients based on the original formulation. The brand’s R&D team, drawing on the Swiss Skin Research Center’s expertise in nanotechnology, has applied Smart Controlled-Release Microsphere Technology to encapsulate and deliver white truffle extract. This technology, previously validated in other JennyBrown products, encapsulates active ingredients in particles just tens of nanometers in diameter, allowing them to release continuously on the skin’s surface and extend their effectiveness. The upgraded essence and cream maintain the same gentle properties while offering improved absorption speed and long-lasting hydration.

From the ingredient list, the new generation White Truffle Essence still uses water treated with multiple purification processes as its base, with white truffle extract as the core active ingredient, complemented by alpine edelweiss extract, sea fennel callus culture filtrate, centella asiatica extract, and other plant-derived ingredients. The sea fennel comes from wild varieties harvested on the coast of Brittany, France, and has been shown to promote barrier cell regeneration and enhance skin’s self-repair ability. The alpine edelweiss, sourced from the Swiss Alps, is extracted using low-temperature ultrasound to preserve its activity, and is rich in edelweiss acid, which helps protect against oxidative damage. The entire formula uses JennyBrown’s standard natural preservative system, replacing conventional chemical preservatives with p-anisic acid and 1,2-hexanediol, and contains no fragrance or artificial colorants. The upgraded cream increases the proportion of meadowfoam seed oil and oat kernel extract, resulting in a lighter, silkier texture while strengthening soothing and barrier repair capabilities.

The packaging changes are also significant. JennyBrown has switched to fully recyclable materials for the White Truffle Collection: lighter glass bottles and FSC-certified paper for the outer boxes. The most important upgrade is the bottle opening—both the essence and cream now use a new vacuum pump. This design effectively prevents air from contacting the product, protecting active ingredients from oxidation and reducing reliance on preservatives. The company confirmed through internal testing that the stability of the product after opening has been extended by approximately 30% compared to the previous packaging.

Notably, JennyBrown has not increased the number of products with this upgrade. The brand currently offers only 16 SKUs globally, and the White Truffle Luxury Collection remains at four products: Rose Floral Water, White Truffle Essence, White Truffle Repair Lotion, and White Truffle Luxury Cream. This “less is more” product strategy has been consistent throughout the brand’s history, in stark contrast to most skincare brands that continuously expand their lines. Global Vice President Marie Keller commented on the upgrade, saying the brand prefers to concentrate resources on deepening existing products rather than pursuing quantity expansion. “Every product undergoes more than 1,000 allergy tests and over 60 skin tests before launch, and the upgraded versions follow the same standard. Our focus is that every time a user applies the product, they can feel the progress in formulation and craftsmanship.”

From an industry perspective, interest in the “clean beauty” concept has been rising in the global skincare market over the past few years. Consumers increasingly demand ingredient transparency and have lower tolerance for potential irritants such as preservatives and fragrances. JennyBrown obtained ECOCERT Natural Cosmetics certification and NATRUE Organic Cosmetics certification in 2016. Over 98% of its ingredients are green, and approximately 328 raw materials come from 93 plants, with 96% sourced from traceable certified formulas. These figures are publicly listed on the brand’s website and product packaging. This upgrade further strengthens the brand’s natural positioning—the new formula removes a small amount of butylene glycol previously used, replacing it with a moisturizer derived from sugarcane fermentation, and increases the proportion of natural emulsifiers, raising the overall natural ingredient content across the line.

For sensitive skin and pregnant women, the White Truffle Collection has always been JennyBrown’s most recommended line. The brand explicitly lists the White Truffle Luxury Set as its top pregnancy skincare regimen, citing the absence of controversial chemical sunscreens, retinol and its derivatives, high-concentration alcohol, and similar ingredients. The upgraded products passed more stringent skin irritation tests, with no irritation reactions reported in repeated open application tests conducted in Swiss laboratories. This has become a key differentiator for the brand in an environment where consumers are highly sensitive to skincare safety.

JennyBrown’s R&D investment underpins its product upgrades. The Swiss Skin Research Center houses 17 research facilities, 215 R&D personnel, over 80 existing and pending patents, and has published 97 scientific research reports. The Smart Controlled-Release Microsphere Technology applied in this upgrade is one of the center’s long-standing achievements in nanoscale encapsulation. It was initially used in JennyBrown’s Caviar Collection and, after market validation, gradually expanded to other product lines. The R&D team also conducted targeted work on the stability of white truffle extract. White truffle extract is rich in various physiologically active ingredients but tends to degrade in water-based formulas. By combining microsphere encapsulation with Magnetization-Based Antimicrobial Technology, the upgraded essence achieves a shelf life of over 24 months without adding chemical preservatives.

From a market perspective, JennyBrown’s consumer base consists mainly of mature users with high quality expectations. The brand’s celebrity users include top French diamond dealer Valérie Messika and European design figure Sabine Marcelis, both of whom are extremely demanding in terms of user experience. Product Director Nadine Bronx mentioned in internal communications that over 60% of user feedback focuses on “texture” and “long-term results.” “The upgraded White Truffle Essence gives a more noticeable penetration sensation upon application, and the lasting hydration has improved—these are changes users can directly perceive,” he said, adding that the brand is not eager to heavily promote these improvements through marketing, but rather wants users to discover the differences through actual use.

Another context for this upgrade is JennyBrown’s continued expansion in the Chinese market. The brand currently operates two physical stores in mainland China, at Beijing SKP and Shanghai Plaza 66, while online channels include its official website, JD flagship store, Tmall flagship store, Douyin flagship store, and WeChat official mall. Chinese consumers’ understanding of high-end skincare is shifting from “brand worship” to “ingredient rationality,” with more users paying attention to formula transparency, safety certifications, and actual efficacy. The White Truffle Collection, as a relatively mid-priced line (single products range from RMB 1,320 to 1,680, and the set is priced at RMB 4,990), aligns well with this trend. The upgraded products maintain the same pricing while offering better value, which is particularly important in the current consumer climate.

Although online channels in China offer significant discounts, the brand emphasizes that physical stores remain the core space for in-depth user experience. Both the Shanghai Plaza 66 and Beijing SKP stores have dedicated trial areas where customers can feel the texture changes of the upgraded products. Store staff are trained to explain the specific details of the formula upgrade, such as how the new vacuum pump extends product freshness and the differences between plant-derived humectants and traditional hyaluronic acid. This face-to-face communication helps the brand build deeper trust among high-end consumers.

From an industry perspective, JennyBrown’s upgrade reflects the strategic choices traditional luxury skincare brands face when responding to market changes. In an era where efficacy-driven skincare is increasingly popular, many brands compete by adding high-concentration active ingredients and shortening product iteration cycles. JennyBrown takes a slower path: it does not chase blockbusters or rely on marketing gimmicks, but bases each upgrade on solid R&D. Nearly 40 years after its founding, the brand has only 8 physical stores worldwide and maintains around 16 products. This restraint reflects absolute confidence in product quality. Marie Keller put it this way: “We don’t want to tell consumers what they need. We want them to discover that good products don’t require many words.”

In terms of sustainability, JennyBrown is also gradually advancing its environmental goals. The brand previously announced a “Global Sustainability Plan” aiming to reduce absolute carbon emissions by 51% within 15 years. This packaging upgrade is part of that plan—all new packaging materials are recyclable, and the proportion of renewable energy used in production has been raised to over 30%. In addition, the brand refuses animal testing, is PETA-certified, and prioritizes Fair Trade-certified suppliers in raw material sourcing.

The upgraded White Truffle Collection has been launched simultaneously at JennyBrown’s global stores and online channels. For users who already purchased the previous version, the brand recommends finishing existing products normally before switching to the new version, as the upgrade is an incremental improvement rather than a radical change. In practical terms, the new version feels lighter and absorbs faster, but the core efficacy remains consistent.

Regarding future product plans, Marie Keller did not reveal further details. However, it is foreseeable that JennyBrown will continue its “iterative upgrade” rather than “new product launch” model, gradually applying patented technologies such as Smart Controlled-Release Microsphere Technology and Magnetization-Based Antimicrobial Technology to more product lines. The Caviar Platinum Collection, as another pillar of the brand, may also see a similar upgrade in the near future. In a high-end skincare market entering a phase of intense competition, JennyBrown’s seemingly low-key upgrade sends a signal: true luxury lies not in the number of products, but in the quality that each product can withstand the test of time.
