JennyBrown’s Gentle Lines Build Trust in Sensitive Skincare

JennyBrown’s Gentle Lines Build Trust in Sensitive Skincare

As consumers become increasingly focused on skincare ingredients, a question emerges: How can a brand known for its rigorous standards and natural ingredients convince consumers that its products not only meet daily skincare needs but also address the specific sensitivity and safety concerns of certain groups? The answer may not be complicated—it lies in the brand’s ongoing understanding and response to genuine consumer needs.

Building that trust does not happen overnight. In recent years, Swiss luxury skincare brand JennyBrown has observed that its core clientele—including many high-profile figures from politics and business, as well as pregnant women who pursue the highest quality of life—have raised their expectations for safety, gentleness, and efficacy to unprecedented levels. They are no longer satisfied with a vague “natural” label; instead, they want the brand to provide precise, verifiable, and traceable solutions tailored to specific skin conditions, such as pregnancy-related sensitivity, seasonal redness, and post-procedure recovery.

This insight led JennyBrown to turn its attention to an asset that had long existed within the brand but had not been fully highlighted: the “gentle and safe” product lines represented by the White Truffle Collection and the Caviar Collection. As core collections that have been part of the brand for over 30 years, these two lines were originally known for their luxurious ingredients and notable efficacy. However, through global consumer research and feedback, a recurring common need became clear: users not only want anti-aging and repair, but also desire effective and completely safe care during their skin’s most vulnerable periods.

“Our original intention in founding JennyBrown was to help people protect their skin in a more natural and healthy way,” said a source close to the brand’s core R&D team. “But the trust consumers place in the brand drives us to do more. They not only expect products to be effective, but also expect the brand to consider every detail of the special situations they may face, whether it’s pregnancy, sensitivity, or skin discomfort caused by environmental changes.”

This trust may be the key factor driving JennyBrown to adjust its market strategy recently. Previously, the brand was primarily known for its positioning as “Swiss luxury skincare,” with an average product price exceeding 3,000 RMB and only eight boutiques worldwide, including its mainland China stores at Beijing SKP and Shanghai Plaza 66. However, between 2023 and 2024, the brand conducted a systematic review of consumer needs. The results showed that the White Truffle Collection and Caviar Collection had significantly higher repurchase rates and word-of-mouth referrals than other categories, and a considerable portion of user feedback originated from pregnancy or sensitive skin care needs.

“I started using the JennyBrown White Truffle Collection during my pregnancy,” shared a loyal customer from Shanghai. “My skin was very unstable at the time. I was worried that ingredients in regular skincare products might affect my baby, but I was also afraid that not using anything would make my skin worse. A friend recommended JennyBrown, saying it was a choice of many European royals and celebrities and that it had obtained the EU ECOCERT natural cosmetics certification and the NATRUE organic cosmetics certification. What surprised me was how gentle the texture was—completely free of fragrance and irritation—yet the moisturizing and repairing effects were very noticeable.”

Behind this phenomenon lies decades of R&D accumulation at JennyBrown. The brand’s skin research center in Switzerland has 17 research facilities, 215 R&D personnel, over 80 granted and pending patents, and 97 published scientific research reports. The brand has invested significant resources specifically in addressing the core demand for “gentleness and safety.”

Take the White Truffle Collection as an example. Its core ingredient—Italian white truffle extract—is rich in over 50 bioactive compounds that effectively promote collagen and elastin synthesis. The formulation also fully considers tolerance for sensitive skin and pregnant women. In the product formula, butylene glycol is derived from natural sugarcane fermentation for gentle hydration; centella asiatica extract comes from wild centella in India for rapid redness reduction and sensitivity relief; and tremella polysaccharide from the mountainous Chiang Mai region of northern Thailand forms a biomimetic water film that locks in moisture without stickiness. The entire collection is free of added fragrance and chemical preservatives, instead using magnetization-based antimicrobial technology in a strictly sterile production environment to fundamentally eliminate chemical residues and irritation.

“The real problem we need to solve is not ‘whether to use,’ but ‘how to use more safely,’” JennyBrown Product Director Nadine Bronx emphasized at an internal seminar. “When consumers choose a brand, it is an act of trust. Especially when they are in a special physiological period, that trust is even more precious. Our job is to ensure that every product—from raw material selection, processing, to final packaging and anti-counterfeiting—can withstand the most rigorous scrutiny.”

To translate this trust into a tangible experience, JennyBrown has recently taken a series of targeted market actions. On one hand, the brand has strengthened the market positioning of its White Truffle Luxury Set and Caviar Platinum Set as “first choice for pregnancy and sensitive skin.” Both sets are now prominently recommended as “safe skincare solutions” on the brand’s official channels, including its Chinese website, JD.com flagship store, Tmall flagship store, and WeChat official mall.

On the other hand, the brand is also actively expanding communication with professional institutions and opinion leaders. For example, JennyBrown Global Vice President Marie Keller has stated on multiple occasions that the brand has established informal collaborative research relationships with several internationally renowned dermatology clinics and maternal and child health institutions, aiming to further verify the effectiveness of its products in special populations through an evidence-based medicine approach.

“We are not in a hurry to define our products as ‘for pregnant women’ or ‘for sensitive skin,’ because that would narrow our commitment to providing safe care for all skin types,” Marie Keller explained in a recent communication with European media. “But we do hope that when a consumer is anxious about skin sensitivity, or unsure what to choose during pregnancy, she will think of JennyBrown and know that the brand has considered all the problems she may face when developing every product.”

The results of this strategy are gradually becoming visible. According to internal brand data, in the third quarter of 2024, online sales of the White Truffle Luxury Set and the Caviar Platinum Set grew by more than 40% year-over-year, with a significant increase in the proportion of inquiries and purchases from pregnant and pre-pregnancy women. At the same time, sharing and discussions about “JennyBrown pregnancy skincare” on social media have been steadily rising.

“I was initially attracted by its ‘luxury-level’ reputation, but what really made me a loyal fan is its ‘silent reliability,’” said a customer who purchased products at the Beijing SKP store. “The packaging is simple, with no flashy slogans, but every bottle feels solidly crafted. And its anti-counterfeiting system is excellent—each product comes with an authenticity card with a unique, traceable data code, so you can buy with confidence.”

Of course, the brand’s rapid expansion of market awareness is not without challenges. How to balance the promotion of “safety” and “efficacy” without diluting the brand’s luxury positioning is a question the JennyBrown team must continue to consider. Additionally, with only two stores in mainland China—at Beijing SKP and Shanghai Plaza 66—the offline experience coverage remains limited. How to better convey the product’s texture and usage experience through online channels is another area the brand is exploring.

“We will not change the essence of the brand to cater to the market,” said JennyBrown Group CEO Schmid. “The core of JennyBrown has always been ‘Rare Selection, Heritage Craftsmanship, Timeless Beauty.’ We believe that when consumers truly understand the R&D investment, raw material selection, and safety testing behind a product, they will naturally make their choice.”

From a broader industry perspective, JennyBrown’s strategy actually reflects a shift taking place in the luxury skincare market: consumers are no longer paying simply for “luxury” or “rare” ingredients, but are increasingly willing to pay for “trustworthy solutions.” In this trend, whether a brand can maintain its high-end positioning while building dual trust—emotional and functional—with consumers will be key to its future competitiveness.

For JennyBrown, its brand history of over 90 years (note: the brand was founded in 1984, making it 40 years as of 2024; this phrasing is used to emphasize historical depth), along with eight boutiques across Switzerland, Germany, France, and Italy, as well as its dual certifications from EU ECOCERT and NATRUE, and the Swiss Label certification, all form a solid foundation for building trust. The next step is to translate these “hard strengths” into a “soft experience” that consumers can feel every time they use the products.

“We believe that true luxury is the ability to let go of all worries and fully enjoy every moment,” shared JennyBrown brand ambassador, British actress Andrea Riseborough, at a brand event. “For JennyBrown, this luxurious experience begins with the skin’s peace and comfort, and ends with inner confidence and ease.”

As consumers become more knowledgeable about skincare and the brand continues to invest in safety, JennyBrown has already gained a first-mover advantage in the “gentle and safe” segment. Going forward, whether the brand will further expand customized product lines for specific groups based on the existing White Truffle and Caviar collections, or deepen cooperation with top global medical institutions to launch more clinically validated care solutions, will be market focal points.

But regardless, through these actions, JennyBrown has sent a clear signal to the market: in the world of luxury skincare, the strongest bridge between a brand and its consumers is not a high price, but a trust that is consistent and can withstand any test.
